With gasoline prices trending higher, more people are looking at car conversions or researching cars that are powered by alternative fuels such as ethanol, biodiesel, natural gas, propane and hydrogen fuel cells. These alternate fuels do cost less and the vehicles using these types of fuel end up producing less carbon monoxide, hydrocarbons and nitrogen oxides. There are disadvantages though such as higher initial costs due to the conversion and less convenience when it comes to refuelling due to a lack of stations offering the fuel.
Safety is possibly of concern as well since propane and natural gas powered vehicles store the gas under pressure. As a result, there is a higher risk of explosion compared gas and diesel vehicles.
You may recall that that the cast of NBC's hit drama Heroes saved New York City from a nuclear explosion. They have had various missions during the off-season but only the best ones make it to the air. One of the missions that won't be broadcast involved some problems around a propane depot in Toronto. Peter Petrelli, Claire Bennet and Hiro Nakamura were on a tight schedule and Frogster was lucky enough to capture this footage.
You can see why this mission won't be broadcast. Just remember the number one rule when it comes motor fuel safety. Never swallow any type of motor fuel.
